Somalia
In December 2024, the Somali Federal Republic’s Ministry of Health and Human Services (MoH&HS) implemented compulsory regulatory measures to ensure the quality and safety of all health-related products imported into Somalia. These measures include pre-shipment inspection, quality testing, and documentation review for regulated goods prior to export.
Scope of Regulation
- PMedicines, biologics, and medical devices
- Herbal medicines, cosmetics, and food supplements
- Other health-related goods as designated by the Ministry
Key Requirements
- Mandatory Inspection & Testing: Products must undergo quality assessment and verification against preset standards before departure from the country of origin.
- Clean Report of Inspection and Analysis (CRIA): Exporters must obtain a CRIA, issued by the Center for Testing and Research Services (CTRS), to certify compliance.
- Customs Clearance: Shipments lacking a valid CRIA will be rejected at Somali ports of entry.
Implementation Authority
The CTRS, in collaboration with the Somalia Interim National Medicines Regulatory Authority (INMRA), is the sole authorized body to conduct inspections and issue the CRIA. This measure aims to eliminate substandard and counterfeit health products, aligning with regional and international standards to safeguard public health in Somalia.
